Families Together

Families Together

2020-10-07  •  admin  •  Dundee

Covid19 and the subsequent lockdown has had a significant impact on families across the City.

Families have told us that they need support to get back to the “new normal”. Families have suffered from financial hardship, strains on family relationships, anxiety about getting out and about again and having supportive peer-led relationships with friends, family and other children and families in the East End. We will provide support that actively encourages families to build the skills and resilience to improve their health and wellbeing. Rocksolid Families Together project will take a whole family approach that supports and encourages families to work as a cohesive unit in tackling challenges that face them. We will develop a family engagement programme that focusses on a life skills model including health care, home management and home safety, financial management, personal growth, awareness and problem solving and social interaction with other local families and community.

This will be delivered in 1 x weekly sessions. In addition to this we will deliver another family session that provides free or affordable activities for the whole family to enjoy together including walks to local green spaces, games and activities that provide fun and strengthens personal and community networks.

Running Recovery

Running Recovery

2020-10-07  •  admin  •  Dundee

Working alongside a student from Dundee university, we would like to set up a small running group.

The Student is working on a research piece looks at the benefits of running/exercise in recovery. We would love to have a small group of folk that use our service to participate in this. It would start slowly, walking/jogging before progressing. We would show them how to stretch properly and how to pace themselves, setting realistic goals. It has been recognised in a variety of studies that physical exercise can aid in recovery from substance misuse and benefit immensely in an individual's ongoing mental wellbeing. Goals set then reached show will improve the individual's self-worth and enable them to realise that even greater goals can be overcome with the proper support. As a runner myself I have seen this benefit both personally and in others who I have met through various running forums. In the current climate, running itself is able to take place in small groups of socially distanced individuals. We would need funding to buy appropriate running trainers and clothing. Once we are up and running we would go out once or twice a week with individuals and encourage them to do the same themselves.

Dundee Remembers

Dundee Remembers

Funeral Link would like your assistance to help us support those in our community who have experienced a recent death, regardless of the cause, and are experiencing grief. We are planning a series of remembrance activities over the coming six months, in partnership with others in our community, with a theme of supporting those whose loved one has died recently. From the dedication of a memorial bench to the lighting of a candle whilst apart we wish to providea feeling of togetherness. Nothing could have prepared us for what has happened, and is continuing to happen, to those we love in our community; so many of us have been affected both in our personal and professional lives by the impact Covid-19 has had. By helping our community to be more open about grief and loss we aim to help those around us whom we love and also help the generation who come after us to be more open about the impact grief can have. If we can come together physically to do this, we will do. If not, then Funeral Link would like those who are experiencing loss to feel more connected whilst they are having to be apart.
