Relax with Crafts

Relax with Crafts

2020-10-07  •  admin  •  Dundee

Relax With Crafts are proposing a long term, organisational overhaul to allow the craft group to run safely in the event of further restrictions, allowing for members to benefit from the service going forward. This will include resources to create individual craft supplies and a pilot tutor led block to ensure the activity can still support and address the issues created from isolation, without adding stress and concern to their lives.

This group allows members to get involved, not only in crafting, but having stalls at Fun Days, Christmas Fayres etc. which adds to their sense of achievement, builds confidence and creates really positive relationships between people from various ages, backgrounds.

Dudhope Community Garden

Dudhope Community Garden

2020-10-07  •  admin  •  Dundee

As we can’t use our indoor facilities we are currently focussing on our outdoor activities - our ‘Community Garden Project’. Our Garden Project helps people of all ages to engage in outdoor activity, coming together, tending the garden, using the fresh produce for cooking etc. There are the soothing effects of gardening, overcoming health problems, and catering to those who suffer from a disability and stress related conditions. We have designed our garden space to make it more accessible for anyone, including with a disability. Gardening gets you out in the fresh air and sunshine, and it also helps with blood circulation. Those attending the project told us this is their main point of social contact which provides them with the important source of support. Doing a shared activity leads to the formation of friendships, friendship is an integral part of the community garden experience. Clients and volunteers described how they considered other project users to be friends and were also keen for existing friends outside the project to join. This grant would also help us repair our greenhouse and buy some key items needed for the planters. It would also help us promote it and attract more participants.

Support Cafe on Wheels

Taught by Muhammad - Support Cafe on Wheels

2020-10-15  •  admin  •  Dundee

We want to introduce our Support Cafe on Wheels. Due to the current circumstances, all of our operations have come to a pause apart from our Foodbank. With council community centres being closed we are unable to open all 5 of our support cafes, therefore we are planning to run our Support Café on Wheels – we will take a free hot lunch to the most isolated clients who were attending our support cafes.

We will deliver this to their door, ensuring social distance measures and guidance is in place. This not only provides them with a hot meal once a week but helps tackle social isolation and improve mental health and well-being by engaging with them directly. We’ll take time to listen and chat, so they know they’re not alone. We will focus on the regeneration areas where our support cafes were based, these are areas where people are faced with higher unemployment and lower incomes. Because we have built a wide range of partnerships with many other organisations across the city, we will be able to refer clients on to them, if they are experiencing difficulty or require support.
